As usually these things involve travel time, travel expenses, hotel, food and an extended stay – it would depend on if one could afford the time away from work and the expenses involved. If one has children – one would need to find child care or bring the children which adds to the expense. If one has pets – the pets need to be seen to if one is going to be gone for 2 or 3 days or longer. Especially if it is going to be out of that person’s country. Can throw in the need for passports – which not a lot of people have.

As much as one would like to – there probably aren’t many that can do all of that. And there are medical reasons as well. My sister is on dialysis Monday, Wednesday and Friday. She cannot travel at all.

And it’s not that they don’t want to "make the effort". Which is kind of a rude way of putting it.

It’s just that it is a lot of effort, time and expense many people aren’t willing or can’t do. Popular vacation destinations are expensive in and of themselves. And it wouldn’t be a true vacation for the traveler – if the purpose of going is a wedding and not actually a vacation that one wasn’t planning at that particular time of year.

So I’m sure a lot of people would feel as I do – can’t take time from work, can’t afford airfare for the family, don’t have a passport (if needed) have no one to watch kids and dogs for more than a day.

So I would wish you well, send a nice gift and have to stay home.

Some people do, yes. Usually only wealthy immediate family.

Absolutely.

I am a destination wedding photographer and I attend 10-15 destination weddings per year.

Some only have 10-20 guests there, but most of the destination weddings I attend have closer to 100 or more guests.

I shot a wedding in Washington D.C. in which nearly 100 people flew in from Japan to attend.

A large part will be based on how many people you invite.

Actually some people do attend destination weddings. I've been to one destination wedding in the U.S. Virgin Islands. It was my little sisters wedding, and we (me, my husband and kids) had a wonderful time.

Typically, a destination wedding is a wedding held in a popular tourist area – it’s a vacation spot, not native to either person in the wedding party.

And yes, people attend destination weddings. They also travel to different countries to attend weddings.

People who can afford it or feel really obligated to go will be there.

Our world is experiencing severe economic failure and taking a forced trip to a wedding with all the air fare, luggage, taxi, parking, rental car, hotel stays, food and other financial obligations, including the wedding gift and such, it totals THOUSANDS for a couple.

So, please understand that people need to feed their families and pay their rent and mortgage before they can up and leave the dog and kids and their jobs to come to your wedding.

So, these days, more and more people are not going to destination weddings as they simply cannot afford it.

My biggest issue with beach weddings is that the colors always seem to be some shade of teal…

So maybe try using a different color? Like if someone did a beach wedding but did it with purple or something not typically "beachy" but still incorporated some of the beachy stuff into it, that might be cool.

My husband and I are from different countries and we had this issue. It depends on how wealthy and able to travel your families are. We chose to have our wedding in his country of origin because much more of my family can afford to travel such a long distance. All of my very close family and friends were able to attend (around 40 people). More extended family didn't bother with the trip, which was fine with me.

Let me share something with you. Your wedding is not an experience of a lifetime for your guests. It’s a wedding. You aren’t meant to wow them, but rather provide a wonderful party. Beaches are a beautiful backdrop for a wedding, I don’t know what you are complaining about. There’s nothing cliche about it, it just happens to be a popular choice.

If you want to hire fire breathers and belly dancers andhave your wedding in the Goodyear blimp to be different, by all means. But I assure you, your guests would rather be on the beach.

Why is everyone so concerned about unique and different all the time?

It’s not "destination" if it’s where one or both of you live. It’s just distant for some of the guests. (I’d attend this if I could afford to, but there’s a some chance I wouldn’t be able).
