@ melouofs – Absurd!? Ummm… I was born in, raised in and still live in Florida. As such, I have attended and been party to numerous… countless beach weddings. The idea of a beach wedding is not cliché, it’s the décor and theme that is.

@ fizzy stuff– Share away, but you’re preaching to the choir. I am not looking to “wow” my guests. I just want something that is unique, comfortable, fun and inviting – and not the same as every other beach wedding. It would be nice to leave a unique, fun and lasting impression on the guests as well as unique photos and memories for me and hubby. What’s the big deal about “unique and different”? @ Stacy – You don’t have to understand my way of thinking. Again, it’s not a counseling session. I simply asked for décor or event ideas… don’t think so deep into the question. I was born in, raised in and still live in Florida. Both he and I have big families, extended families and our friends… lots of weddings – several a year, every year – at least 60% on the beach. You must not have very many friends… I can see why. *shrugs*

You could do offbeat colors that contrast rather than compliment each other. Most beach weddings are gauzy, why not bold,like black, gold, silver or red? The same with decorations think contrast. Do metallic decorations. Or punk rock beach theme. Come on girl you can have the beach wedding of your dreams. Don’t give up on your design, just think out of the box.
One of the best wedding gowns I ever saw was a bride in a white sequin one piece swimsuit with a piece of white fishnet over her head who came to us walking up the beach alone. The sheer fishnet covered her from head to just where the suit ended. She looked like she sprang from the waves. It was beautiful.

Anyway, I’m just wondering how many people we could actually expect to make the effort to come to the wedding? Do people actually attend destination/far away weddings?

My husband and I are from different countries and we had this issue. It depends on how wealthy and able to travel your families are. We chose to have our wedding in his country of origin because much more of my family can afford to travel such a long distance.

All of my very close family and friends were able to attend (around 40 people). More extended family didn’t bother with the trip, which was fine with me.

And that wedding planner you spoke with is an idiot. What do you think would happen if you followed her advise. Then at your wedding, something of value in the home was broken or stolen. Because of the number of people, there is damage to the grounds, property. The plumbing malfunctioned because of 100 people using the bathrooms. You would be facing a lawsuit.

When you use someone’s property, you have to have a contract. The homeowner would have insurance and liability issues. No homeowner is going to let strangers use their home for any amount of money.

The only way you can have your wedding at a beach house it to use one that is set up as an event center or be lucky enough to know someone that will graciously let you use their home.
